Fall 2007 Programs

six town (tuesdays & wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 pm)

Students in grade 6 meet twice a week and take part in academic support, personal development, and community service activities. The 11-session program includes: Freedom of Expression with Danielle Jasmine; D.A.R.E. with the New Windsor Police Department; and a Thanksgiving community service project at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

rising stars (tuesdays & wednesdays from 2:00-5:30 pm)

Students in grades 7 and 8 meet twice a week and take part in a variety of activities that feature homework assistance, personal development, career exploration and community service. Community partners include Mt. St. Mary's College; OC Dispute Resolution Center; Damon Finch Power Sessions; and Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council.

the ninth hour (mondays from 3:00-4:00 pm)

Students in the 9th grade meet once a week and take part in a variety of activities that assist them with their transition from junior high school to high school. Activities include academic support, personal development, career exploration and community service activities. Community partners include Mt. St. Mary's Colleg; Planned Parenthood of the Mid Hudson Valley; and Diana Perry. For Make A Difference Day, a national day of service, students will cook and serve or deliver lunch to more than 300 senior citizens.

scholars on the move (mondays from 3:00-4:00 pm)

Students in grades 10 and 11 meet once a week and take part in activities that promote personal & leadership development and workforce preparation. Community partners include Mount Saint Mary's College; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; and NFA's Guidance Department. For Make A Difference Day, a national day of service, students will cook and serve or deliver lunch to more than 300 senior citizens.

collegecounts - (mondays from 4:00-5:30 PM)

Students in grades 9-11 meet once a week and will learn about the college preparation process; engage in SAT preparation; attend the Multi-Cultural College Fair at NFA. Prior to the Multi-Cultural College Fair, students will have dinner and dialog with representatives from HBCU's. Tenth graders will be encouraged to take the PSAT and seniors to take the SAT test.

just seniors (thursdays from 2:00-3:00 pm)

Seniors are brought together in order to assist them through the college process; introduce resources; and provide a venue in support of their last year in high school. A select group of seniors will be invited to visit two LPP alumni who attend Delaware State University at DSU's Homecoming. SUNY Orange, SUNY New Paltz, Mt. St. Mary College, and NFA's Guidance Department will conduct workshop.

fitness fun ( thursdays from 3:00-5:00 pm)

High school students will have access to the Orange County Athletic Club and participate in an interactive series of workshops that will explore various health issues as well as physical activities.
