JASON WESTBROOK NAMED NEW STUDENT TRUSTEE
Cornwall Resident Will Represent Student Body
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Cornwall resident Jason Westbrook was sworn in Monday (Feb. 11) as the new student representative to the SUNY Orange Board of Trustees. He will serve as student trustee through the Board’s June 2013 meeting.
As the student trustee, Westbrook will represent the College’s nearly 6,000 students at Board meetings and other special College events. An accounting student who is on track to earn his associate’s degree in May after just three semesters, Westbrook has been an active presence on SUNY Orange’s newly expanded Newburgh campus since enrolling last spring.
This past Fall, Westbrook was elected as the first president of the Newburgh Campus Student Senate. He also is president of the campus’ Business, Veterans and History clubs. He has also served as treasurer of the business club and has earned recognition from both the business club and student senate for his service to the campus and his commitment to improving campus life.
Westbrook holds a 3.93 grade point average, has been on the Dean’s List during each of his three semesters at the College, and is a member of SUNY Orange’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges. He serves as an Admissions Student Ambassador, assisting the Admissions staff in an array of areas and representing SUNY Orange students at selected College events.
His resume of community service includes having volunteered to clean Newburgh area streets with Safe Harbors of the Hudson, participating in the St. Luke’s Double Dash for Cardiac Care and the American Heart Walk, and assisting with concessions at occasional Newburgh Free Academy varsity wrestling events. He also coaches the youth sports of soccer, basketball and baseball for the Cornwall Recreation programs.
Westbrook graduated from Cornwall High School and spent 13 years in the United States Marine Corps before accepting an honorable discharge. He earned three Navy Achievement Medals for exceptional service.
He resides in Cornwall with his daughter Cierra, 9, and son John, 8.
