Commencement Video Stream/Archive a Success

College Community

The live video stream and archived video of SUNY Orange's 2011 Commencement ceremony, offered by the College for the first time ever this spring, was a tremendous success.

There were at least 350 people who watched the live on-campus simulcast in either Orange Hall Theatre, Harriman Hall Room 111 or the Shepard Student Center Cafeteria. The live video stream logged 465 independent connections during the actual ceremony, and the archived video drew 458 views during the first two weeks following Commencement.

In total, the video stream and archive delivered the ceremony, which was moved indoors because of the effects of inclement weather, to 1,273 people who perhaps otherwise could not have been there (either because of space limitations in the gym, weather concerns or geography).

In addition, the College has offered DVD's of the Commencement for sale, with 20 orders received to date.

Plans are under way to stream and simulcast future Commencement events, regardless of whether they are held indoors or on the Alumni Green.
