BIRDS: Enduring Feathered Creatures

Visitors to Orange Hall Gallery at SUNY Orange will enter a world of birds August 22 through Oct. 22. The exhibit on view, "BIRDS: Enduring Feathered Creatures," will offer large birds, small birds, songbirds, water fowl, domesticated fowl, indigenous, exotic, in 115 paintings, photographs, drawings, collages, and sculptures in realistic as well as abstract depictions by 51 artists.

The reception for this wide-ranging educational show is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16 from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. during which pianist Manny Carrasquillo will play jazz standards and modern jazz.

In addition, five lectures focusing on habitat relative to climate and land-use changes, bird conservation, indigenous birds, ancestry, and art will further visitors knowledge and understanding of these extremely varied creatures. Also, a master class on painting birds in oil plus an evening of poetry will broaden the cultural experience through the arts for the college community and community-at-large.

The reception, exhibit, lectures, master class, and poetry evening are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, as well as during performances in Orange Hall Theatre.
