Drums of Vodou to Open Global Initiative: Islands on Sept. 15

Lois Wilckes, ethnomusicologist and director of Brooklyn-based Haitian drumming troupe Makandal, will lecture on history of Vodou drumming in Haiti; its connections to African musical and religious traditions, including the Vodou (voodoo) religion; and its impact on cultural and social life.

She will also present a short film about Vodou dance and drums.

This Global Initiative: Islands event will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15 in the Gerry Forum (Room 010) of the Rowley Center on the College's Middletown campus.
