Fiesta Mundial

"Fiesta Mundial" is a festive event on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange. It is an evening of sharing fun and the favorite foods of the families who attend and bring an ethnic food. Presented by Cultural Affairs in collaboration with English as a Second Language (ESL), this event is a concert-party that is free and open to the public. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the OCTC Great Room, Kaplan Hall.

This year the music focuses on the many nationalities of the Americas and to complement that theme the "Americas Quintet," a Newburgh-based ensemble, will play music from nine countries from North, Central, and South Americas. The quintet itself represents several countries: Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Guyana and the West Indies, Honduras, Peru, and the USA. Led by classical guitarist Joy Zelada, who also plays electric guitar, the group includes Matt Barnes, bass guitar; Joshua Viera, piano and back-up vocals; Lynette Jerez, lead vocal; and Edwin Fuentes, drums/percussion. They will play many well-known, popular pieces.

During an Interlude, Zelada will solo while explaining, and then playing, classical pieces from Peru, Brazil and Spain.

Come learn and enjoy the music and family-recipe foods, during this wonderful community program.

Free, secure parking is available in the Kaplan Hall parking garage via the 73 First Street entrance.
