College to Test On-Campus Emergency Speakers Jan. 26

SUNY Orange students,

The SUNY Orange Safety and Security staff will be testing the on-campus emergency speaker systems on both campuses with a series of three announcements between 11 and 11:15 a.m. next Thursday (Jan. 26).

These test messages will give us a chance to see if changes to the Middletown system have improved the audio quality of the announcements coming through the speakers. We will also use this time to review the performance of the Newburgh campus system.

Security personnel will broadcast pre-recorded “test” messages twice, and will go live with a “test” message once, over that 15-minute span. Please keep in mind that these are only “test” messages and that no action will be required. However, we do ask that you plan accordingly in order to prepare for the slight interruption that is bound to occur as activities and classes will be ongoing.

With the new semester now under way, this is a good time to remind you of the following:

1. Familiarize yourself with the College’s emergency procedures. You can become acquainted with how to handle any of the potential situations that may arise by accessing any of the following resources:

2. Update or verify the accuracy of your “emergency contact” information contained in the New York Alert system. To check your information in New York Alert, access Banner from within MySUNYOrange. On your “Personal Information” tab in Banner, you will see an “Emergency Alert Contact Information (NY Alert)” link. Click that link to view your information. Be sure to hit the “continue” button to be sure your review and changes are processed.

3. Always assess your surroundings as you move throughout our campuses, and think about the actions you might take should an emergency situation arise.

Thanks. If you have any questions, you can contact me at 341-4934.
