August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day

The Wellness Center is proud to participate in International Overdose Awareness Day.

Did you know 3X more Orange County residents are dying of heroin and pain medication overdoses than any other county in New York?

Or that the biggest abusers of prescription drugs are aged 18-25? And 90 percent of those are hooked before the age of 20?

Did you know that 4 out of 5 heroin users started with prescription pain killers?

Or that the number of Americans who died because of heroin increased by nearly 250 prcent in only four years?

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global event held on August 31st each year to raise awareness of drug and alcohol overdose and reduce the stigma of a alcohol and drug-related deaths. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug or alcohol overdose.

Overdose Day spreads the message that the tragedy of overdose death is preventable. Stop by our info table to meet representatives from the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council and the Wellness Center and learn about signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol overdose and what you can do to help prevent an overdose emergency.
