Ending Rape: Creating a Culture of Consent

The SUNY Orange Wellness Center will welcome Keith Edwards, a noted national speaker on the prevention of sexual violence, to the Middletown campus on Thursday, Oct. 5 for two sessions of his impactful 90-minute presentation “Ending Rape: Creating a Culture of Consent.”

Edwards will appear in the Gerry Forum of the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering at 11 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. Both sessions will be streamed to Tower Building Room 307 on SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus. Admission is free and the presentations are open to the general public.

This is an opportunity for people of all genders to learn about rape culture, what it means, and how to influence change. At the end, participants will be able to:

  • explain the difference between reactive and proactive approaches to sexual violence.

  • describe perpetrators of sexual violence.

  • define informed consent.

  • give examples of rape culture. offer way that they can personally combat rape culture in their own lives and communities.

Presented by Keith Edwards, Ph.D., nationally known speaker and consultant at more than 100 colleges and universities. Dr. Edwards has presented more than 100 programs at national conferences, and has written more than 15 articles or book chapters on sexual violence prevention, men's identity, social justice education, curricular approaches, and leadership. His research, writing, and speaking has received national awards and recognition, including ACPA Dissertation of the Year and ACPA Diamond Honoree.

This event will be live streamed to the Newburgh Campus.
