In partnership with the Orange County Human Rights Commission, the College has scheduled two screenings of “13th”, which will be accompanied by a discussion of this thought-provoking documentary in which scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S prison boom.

The film screening and discussion will be hosted by Inaudy Esposito, Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission of Orange County.

The film is directed by Ava DuVernay and explores the 'intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States.

Screenings are slated from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 and 28. The Feb. 15 showing will take place in the Gerry Forum while the Feb. 28 presentation will be held in Room 201 of Kaplan Hall on the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus.

Admission is free.

Additionally, throughout the month, the College will be featuring, on its social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), relevant quotes from notable figures in African American history and current pop culture, as well as short written and video testimonials from members of the College community regarding the meaning of Black History Month to them.
